Camping Excursion in Tour du Mont Blanc

Enjoy an authentic camping experience and walking tour through the Mont Blanc Circuit. In this 15-day sample itinerary, you will explore different parts of France, Italy, and Switzerland, and climb over six mountain passes. You’ll also sleep on comfortable and modern camping sites, with fully equipped sites to help you recharge and reenergize before each new trek.

Day 1: Geneva – Les Bossons, Near Chamonix

Arrive at Geneva airport and transfer to your campsite in Les Bossons, located out of Chamonix. Enjoy pleasant views from your campsite and get to know your fellow travelers. Participate in an introductory briefing in the evening.

Spend 2 nights at the Les Marmottes, Les Bossons Campsite.

Day 2: Grand Balcon Sud – Les Frasserands

Take a short bus journey from Les Bossons to Chamonix. Then walk to Les Praz and take a cable car to La Flégère. Go on a walking tour of the Grand Balcon trail, where you will reach the highest point at Lac Blanc. Then take a descent, followed by some twisty paths, to reach the hamlet of Les Frasserands. Then go on a scenic train ride back to camp.

Day 3: Col de Balme – Switzerland – Trient

Take a scenic train ride to Les Frasserands and climb to the Aiguillette de Posettes. Then descend, and ascend, to reach Col de Balme, and follow one of the many paths to cross the France to Switzerland border. Admire the stunning views of Aiguille d’Argentière and Aiguille du Tour. Enjoy lunch and descend to the hamlet of Trient.

Day 4: Col da le Forclaz – Champex

Climb to Col de Forclaz and proceed to Rhône Valley, followed by the small town of Martigny. Then follow the ‘Bovine Route,’ walking through the meadows and pastures, before descending to the town of Champex.

Descent: 3,261ft

Spend 1 night at the Les Rocailles, Champex Lac Campsite

Day 5: Val Ferret – La Fouly

From Mont Blanc, head south and descend into the woods to reach Val Ferret. Then explore Issert and the surrounding farm villages. If you are visiting in June or July, you can watch the flowers in bloom, plus the orchids.

Continue to head up the valley, reaching the remote village of La Fouly, located at the foot of Mont Dolent. This summit marks the meeting point of France, Italy, and Switzerland.

Day 6: Grand Col Ferret

Proceed to La Drance and climb to the Grand Col Ferret. Once in Italy, explore Val Ferret and admire the mountain views. Walk through the valley to Arp Nouva and take an optional bus trip to Planpincieux.

Spend 2 nights at Camping Grandes Jorasses, Val Ferret

Day 7: Rest Day

Enjoy a free day of leisure and relaxation. Optional activities include a visit to Courmayeur and Entrèves, which are famous spa towns, and a Skyway cable car trip from La Palud to Point Helbronner. Tickets for the cable car can be purchased locally on the day.

Day 8: Bonatti Refuge – Val Ferret – Mont de la Saxe – Courmayeur – Val Veny

Take a short bus ride on the Tour du Mont Blanc route. Then climb up to the Bonatti refuge. From there, walk along the contouring path around Mont de la Saxe to Courmayeur.

In the afternoon, descend to Courmayeur and enjoy a delicious Italian gelato. Then go on a short bus ride to Val Veny.

Spend 1 night at Camping Aiguille Noire, Val Veny

Day 9: France – Col de La seigne – La Ville des Glaciers – Les Chapieux

On today’s trail, climb along the Val Veny. Then pass Lac Combal, following the old Roman road and going across the Col de la Seigne pass. Re-enter France.

Take a fairly steep descent through La Ville des Glaciers and Les Chapieux. Be prepared to participate in a particularly long walk today, but the effort will be worth it for the stunning views.

Spend 1 night at Camping in Capieux

Day 10: Col de la Croix du Bonhomme – Col du Bonhomme

After reaching the circuit’s southwest corner, head north and go on a steep climb to the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme. Then go around to the Col du Nonhomme and descend to your campsite in Les Contamines.

Ascent: 3,050ft

Descent: 4,510ft

Day 11: Rest Day

Enjoy a day of free leisure to rest and relax. There are many short and long optional walks to discover, which are accessible via a chairlift or gondola. You can also explore the local restaurants, cafes, and markets, giving you a chance to enjoy the local cuisine and purchase some gifts to bring home with you.

Day 12: Cross Col de tricot – Col de Voza – Chamonix Valley – Les Houches

Be prepared for another long but rewarding trek. Today, walk through Les Contamines ascend to Chalets du Truc, and descend to Chalets di Miage. Then climb to the Col de Tricot. Other locations you will visit include the Glacier de Bionnassay, Cold de Voza, Chamonix Valley, and the village of Les Houches. Depending on the time of year, you may also take an optional cable car from Bellevue to Les Houches. Finally, take a bus ride back to Les Bossons.

Ascent: 3,980ft

Descent: 4,500ft

Duration: Approximately 9 hours of walking

Spend 3 nights at Camping Les Marmottes, Les Bossons

Day 13: Mont Blanc – Brévent – Plan Praz

Head to the north side of Chamonix Valley and explore the pine forest. Marvel at the incredible views from the region’s highest point, Brévent. Then walk down to Plan Praz and descend via cable car to Chamonix.

Day 14: Free Day at Les Bossons

Enjoy a free day of leisure and relaxation in Les Bossons. Your group leader will advise you on the different walking trails available to you. You can also explore the numerous cafes, restaurants, and shops. This will give you a chance to mingle with the friendly locals and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere.

There is also a mountain train that takes you to Montenvers, which provides close-up views of the Mer de Glace glacier. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, go on a tandem paraglide flight.

Day 15: Geneva – London

Depart in the morning for Geneva and head to the airport to fly back to London.
